SAHA Catering, Sydney-based enterprise

Saha catering - an AMES Community Project

Saha Catering is the first AMES Social Enterprise to be established in Sydney. The main aim of Saha is to improve access to employment pathways for clients from a CALD background who face multiple barriers to employment.

Currently Saha runs short term accredited courses in basic skills in hospitality, aimed at improving the client’s chances of securing employment in the industry as a kitchen or sandwich hand.

Saha also takes catering orders to create a real-life training environment in which the students can acquire valuable workplace skills such as working to a schedule, meeting standards and team work as well as improving language and cross cultural skills and reduce social isolation. A delicious multicultural menu has been developed. When you order from Saha you are also supporting a disadvantaged person to gain work skills.

Currently the program has achieved a 55% employment outcome rate with long term unemployed clients.

This project was mainly funded by AMES and its partners as follows:

  • The Department of Transport and Regional Services (DOTARS)
  • The Greater Western Sydney Economic Development Board (GWSEDB)
  • GROW Sydney ACC
