Humanitarian Settlement Services (HSS)
AMES has been delivering the Integrated Humanitarian Settlement Strategy (IHSS) since October 2005 as part of the Settlement Division. During this time, IHSS has supported almost 20,000 clients to settle across Victoria.
From the 4th April 2011 the Settlement Division alongside the consortium partners and sub-contractors will deliver the new Humanitarian Settlement Services (HSS) contract. As the lead agency, AMES will focus on creating strong partnerships to deliver the HSS in the 5 contract regions across Victoria:
- North East Melbourne
- West and Inner Melbourne
- South East Melbourne and Gippsland
- South West Victoria
- Northern Victoria.
Who are HSS clients?
Clients holding the following visas are eligible for HSS:
• Refugee (visa subclass 200, 201, 203 and 204)
• Global Special Humanitarian (visa subclass 202)
• Permanent Protection (visa subclass 866).

Fast Facts
Since 1 October 2005, AMES IHSS Consortium has provided settlement services to all Humanitarian Entrants arriving in Victoria. The average yearly intake is over 3,500 entrants. The arrivals have included entrants from the following countries:
