For the community

- Does your organisation support migrants with English language needs?
- Would you like your volunteers to develop and enhance their tutoring skills?
- Would you like a to establish a volunteer tutor program?
The AMES Volunteer Tutor Enhancement Program provides training for volunteers and support to coordinators, to help community organisations manage volunteer tutor programs which support migrants.
VTEP is provided at no cost, through funding from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. It targets those migrants who are not eligible for the AMEP (Adult Migrant English Program / 'The 510 Hours').
VTEP provides:
- an accredited training course for volunteer tutors, covering adult learning, settlement and cultural issues, identifying learner's needs, planning lessons and tutoring activities.
- a training manual and hands-on resources for tutoring.
- guidance and information for coordinators on setting up a program and managing volunteers.
- workshops on a variety of useful and inspiring topics for both volunteers and coordinators.
Participating organisations need to:
- have a coordinator to oversee volunteer activity (this person may be a volunteer themselves).
- be responsible for recruitment and matching of volunteers and students
- be responsible for providing support to volunteers in performing their role.
To discuss the training and support we can provide your organisation, please contact Liz Round, VTEP Coordinator.
