The AMEP General English Courses are based on the Certificate in Spoken and Written English (CSWE). This course is for students starting to learn English.

Students will develop their English language skills through topics relating to their everyday life in Australia such as Education, Health and Money.

What will I learn?

This course will enable you to learn to:

  • Use English to obtain goods and services
  • Have a conversation in English
  • Read and write a range of everyday texts such as simple instructions, messages and stories

Training for the Workplace courses


Based on interviews where your language level will be assessed and a counsellor will discuss your learning goals.

Course duration

  • Available full-time or part-time.
  • Daytime, evening and weekend classes available.
  • You can also study English with a Volunteer Tutor
  • This course is also offered through our online distance learning service.

Course dates

Term start dates for 2016 are as follows:

  • Term 1 – Monday 11th January
  • Term 2 – Monday 4th April
  • Term 3 – Tuesday 12th July
  • Term 4 – Monday 3rd October

The course will be run subject to enrolment numbers.

The AMEP is based on an accredited curriculum delivering 10362NAT Certificate I in Spoken and Written English, 10363NAT Certificate II in Spoken and Written English.
AMES is a Registered Training Organisation TOID 0590.
This course is part of the AMEP and is free to eligible AMEP students.
The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training.
