Since 2010, AMES Australia has presented the Heartlands Art Project to increase artist’s opportunities from a refugee background to break into the arts and media sectors. The Heartlands Project creates a platform that provides positive images and stories of the refugee experience to the wider Australian community.
The Heartlands Project has become a signature event of the multicultural calendar, positioned to support June’s Refugee Week celebrations in Victoria. This year’s exhibition will focus on the journeys, hopes and dreams of refugees and asylum seekers.
We would be delighted if you would attend the opening night at the Walker Street Gallery & Arts Centre in Dandenong on Thursday 8th June.
We will be hosting a catered event, during which we will be introducing an eclectic mix of artwork by artists from Syria, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Poland, Pakistan, Iran, Tibet and Zimbabwe.
There is ample street parking available outside the venue, which is free from 6 p.m.
