Securing futures: making the most of migrants' skills

This new research from AMES reviews the effectiveness of the Skilled Professional Migrants Program (SPMP). Designed to equip professionally qualified migrants to find work in their field in Australia, the SPMP provides a bridge across the cultural divide facing some migrants relaunching their careers in the Australian labour market.

Most of the 239 SPMP participants interviewed for this project were selected for migration to Australia on the basis of their qualifications and professional experience through the Skilled Migration Program. All participants had professional backgrounds and a strong desire to continue their careers in Australia.

The research indicates that participating in employment orientation like the SPMP can be particularly effective in fast tracking people into work that utilises their skills.
