Syrian Refugee Update

AMES Australia is preparing to provide settlement support for what we anticipate will be a large intake into Victoria of refugees impacted by the conflict in the Syrian region.

We greatly appreciate that members of the community are so willing to respond to people in need and AMES Australia will be coordinating the registration process for people in Victoria wishing to assist.

We are in the process of identifying what volunteer settlement support will be needed, and are currently working with the Australian government to make arrangements to help settle these refugees. However, we do not yet know when exactly the first of these refugees will be requiring our support or how many will arrive to specific regions in Victoria.

When we receive more information we will be able to keep you updated on any developments and provide information about how you can get involved. At this stage we are anticipating that roles may include settlement and orientation support, activity based and social support or language support.

Currently there is no formal call for volunteers and we are not yet recruiting for new volunteers to support people as they arrive. However, you can check back here on our website for updated information as things are confirmed or register your interest below.

If you would like to register to find out more about how you can volunteer to help these refugees, click here to submit your expression of interest. We will keep in contact with you as we receive more definite arrival information and confirm what roles will be needed.
