Multicultural Hub Volunteer

Volunteers at the Multicultural Hub are integral to its success. Volunteers will support both staff and community groups at the hub through a range of support activities including reception, administration, induction, information provision and training.

The Multicultural Hub volunteer placement has been designed to provide new migrants and refugees with an opportunity to participate in the Australian workforce through the delivery of a range of customer service/reception duties to support both staff and community groups at the Hub.

What will I be doing as an AMES Australia Multicultural Hub Volunteer?

 A Multicultural Hub volunteer will support reception, assist with room bookings and completion of relevant paperwork as well as assist Hub users with induction, orientation and general support.

Examples of tasks include:

At Reception:

  • Support a busy switchboard and reception area
  • Assist visitors with enquiries both over the phone and face to face
  • Assist to maintain appropriate information and brochures in reception area

General administrative tasks:

  • Filing
  • reating correspondence
  • Data entry
  • Record maintenance
  • Archiving and cleaning.

How much time do I need to spend volunteering?

There are two options for volunteering at the Hub:

Option 1
Volunteer Work Experience Program: Attendance for two to three days a week 9am to 5pm for an agreed period of time. See position description.

Option 2
Ongoing Hub Volunteer: Attendance for one four hour shift session per week between 9am and 8pm. This may include weekdays or weekend. See position description.

Do I need any special skills or training?

We are looking for people who can speak, read and write English confidently, have an ability to learn new systems both electronic and manual and who also have good computer, data entry and general administration skills.

All Multicultural Hub Volunteers are provided with training and ongoing support.
