Victoria closes skilled nominated visa (subclasses 190 and 491) program for 2019-20

Update: 3 June 2020

The Victoria government announced that skilled visa nomination is now closed for the 2019-20 program as the state have filled the places provided by the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs.

This includes both Skilled Nominated (Permanent) visa (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

All applications received before 28 May 2020 will continue to be assessed and an outcome will be advised to all applicants in due course.  Victoria will be prioritising occupations in sectors critical to the coronavirus response when allocating the remaining nomination places to help assist Victoria’s response to the economic and health challenges posed by the pandemic.

The closure is only temporary and the program will accept new application in 2020-2021 with the date yet to be confirmed.

The Victoria government encourages applicants to reapply. Applicants will be offered an automatic waiver, which means you will not have to wait six months to re-apply.

No other visa subclass is affected and Victoria continues to accept applications for the following visas:

  • Business Innovation – Extension only (subclass 188A Extension)
  • Significant Investor – Extension only (subclass 188C Extension)
  • Permanent Business Innovation (subclass 888A)
  • Permanent Investor (subclass 888B)
  • Permanent Significant Investor (subclass 888C).
