About SEE

The SEE (Skills for Education and Employment) program, is an Australian Government Department of Education and Training-funded program that provides language, literacy, numeracy training and technology skills in preparation for employment and further education. It provides up to 800 hours of free training to eligible Centrelink and jobactive clients. 

AMES Australia and its subcontracted partners offer full and part-time course with ongoing entry at locations across Melbourne and regional Victoria:

SEE is designed to help you improve your English speaking, reading and writing as well as increase your computer skills for the workplace.

Through the SEE course, you can learn:

  1. English language skills (Initial, Basic and Advanced levels) based on nationally recognised certificates (the Certificate in Spoken and Written English(CSWE) or the Certificates in English as an Additional Language (EAL))
    • Learn in a small class (approximately 20 students) with experienced English language teachers
    • Learn about Australian workplace communication, culture and practices
    • Receive English Language support
    • Improve your job search skills
    • Boost your confidence to find a job
  2. Workplace communication and employability skills
    • Learn industry related vocabulary
    • Learn how to fill out forms
    • Improve understanding of workplace culture
    • Improve your job search skills
    • Prepare for Employment - CV, applications, interviews
  3. Information Technology and online training 
    At AMES Australia, you will learn in a classroom and online. A teacher will help you to learn skills in computer rooms and independently such as:
    • The basics of using a computer
    • Word Processing and Excel
    • Internet searching and skills to manage your online accounts
    • Creating your own documents and presentations
    • Using personal devices for Job searching skills including using Centrelink’s mobile app
  4. Work Placement
    • AMES Australia will arrange a work placement in a local business or industry to help you gain practical experience

The Certificate III courses in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community) (CHC33015) and Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113) are also available to SEE eligible clients. You’ll receive an industry recognised qualification in an area where there are growing job opportunities and you will be prepared to start work in that industry. You are eligible for the SEE program if you:

  • are 15 to 64 years old
  • are registered as a job seeker with DHS
  • are not a full-time student
  • meet the rules on visa status and benefits
