Cabrini Health supporting Afghan refugees Staff at Cabrini Health have donated gift vouchers to AMES Australia to be distributed to Afghan refugees who were part of the recent airlift out of Kabul.

AMES Australia CEO Cath Scarth accepted the donation from Cabrini Health Head of Mental Health and Outreach Sharon Sherwood at the Cabrini Hospital in Malvern.

Thanking the Cabrini staff on behalf of AMES Cath said the vouchers would make difference in the lives of the Afghan refugees.

“The vouchers are so important because they give these families choice and agency. They can use them for the needs that they have identified themselves,” Cath said.

She said that many of the Afghans had to flee their homeland at short notice and arrived with just the clothes they were wearing.

Ms Sherwood said Cabrini Health was pleased to be able to help people who had suffered trauma and were beginning new lives in Australia.

AMES is supporting more than 2000 Afghan refugees who were forced to flee their homes when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in mid-August.
