Victoria has reported 1656 new local COVID-19 cases – down from 1923 cases yesterday - and 10 more deaths overnight – taking the number of people who have died from the delta variant to 282.

There are now 23,730 active cases across the state. There are 738 COVID-positive patients in hospital with 180 in intensive care and 85 on ventilators.

Seventy-eight per cent of Victorians are now fully vaccinated and more than 92 per cent have had one dose.

From 6pm tonight, Victorians will be allowed to travel across the state, density limits at hospitality venues will increase only for fully vaccinated people, retail centres will reopen and masks will no longer be required outdoors - under the Victorian government’s path back to freedom announced yesterday.

Unvaccinated adults and older children will be barred from accessing all but basic services until 2023.

By November 24, more than 90 per cent of Victorians are expected to be fully vaccinated.   

NSW reported 268 new cases of COVID-19 and two deaths overnight.

Victoria has reported 1923 new local COVID-19 cases and 25 more deaths overnight – a record number of deaths in a day during this outbreak.

But the number of active cases has fallen to 22,189 across the state after 82,648 COVID tests were returned yesterday.

There are 746 COVID-positive patients in hospital with 137 in intensive care and 85 on ventilators.

Seventy-seven per cent of Victorians are now fully vaccinated and more than 91 per cent have had one dose.

Health authorities have approved a Pfizer booster vaccine for over 18s.  

From 6pm tomorrow, Victorians will be allowed to travel across the state, density limits at hospitality venues will increase only for fully vaccinated people, retail centres will reopen and masks will no longer be required outdoors - under the Victorian government’s path back to freedom announced yesterday.

Victoria has reported 1534 new local COVID-19 cases and 13 more deaths overnight.

The number of active cases has fallen to around 24,164 across the state after more than 88,000 COVID tests were returned yesterday.

There are 748 COVID-positive patients in hospital with 139 in intensive care and 85 on ventilators.

Seventy-six per cent of Victorians are now fully vaccinated and more than 91 per cent have had one dose.

Victoria has reported 1510 new local COVID-19 cases and four more deaths overnight.

The number of active cases has fallen to around 24,700 across the state after 55,679 COVID tests were returned.

There are 817 COVID-positive patients in hospital with 147 in intensive care and 88 on ventilators.

Seventy-five per cent of Victorians are now fully vaccinated and more than 90 per cent have had one dose.

Unvaccinated adults and older children will be barred from accessing all but basic services until 2023.

Victoria reported 1461 new local COVID-19 cases and seven more deaths overnight – down from 1935 cases yesterday. 74 per cent of Victorians are now fully vaccinated and 91 per cent have had one dose.

By November 24, more than 90 per cent of Victorians are expected to be fully vaccinated.   

There are now 24,831 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 56,905 COVID tests were returned.

There are 802 people in hospital, 152 in ICU and 92 on a ventilator. 

NSW reported 294 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths overnight and the ACT 9 new cases.

COVID-19 Update – October 22, 2021

Victoria came out of lockdown overnight after the state reached 70 per cent double dose vaccination mark. Yesterday was the 262nd day of lockdown for Melbournians.

The state is due to reach the 80 per cent fully vaccinated mark next weekend.

Victoria reported 2189 new local COVID-19 cases and 16 more deaths – a record number of deaths for a single day and bring the total for the latest outbreak to 203. 

There are now 23,230 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 77,036 COVID tests were returned.

There are 784 people in hospital, 140 in ICU and 94 on a ventilator. The seven-day average of hospitalisations is now 794. Eight-eight per cent of hospital cases and 94 per cent of ICU cases are not fully vaccinated.

Hotel quarantine will be phased out from November 1.  

NSW reported 345 new cases of COVID-19 and five deaths overnight and the ACT 13 new cases.

Victoria has reached 70 per cent double dose vaccination mark today and the lockdown will end tonight.

But Victoria reported 2232 new local COVID-19 cases and 12 more deaths. The number of cases is up from yesterday’s 1841 cases and marks Victoria’s second-highest daily case tally on record.

Victoria has also passed 1000 COVID-related deaths since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yesterday 993 had died with the virus, but today’s tally pushes that figure to 1005.

There are now 22,889 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 79,544 coronavirus tests were returned.

There are 779 people in hospital, 141 in ICU and 96 on a ventilator. 88 per cent of hospital cases and 98 per cent of ICU cases are not fully vaccinated. 

NSW reported 327 new cases of COVID-19 and one death overnight and the ACT 28 new cases.

Victoria and Australia will both hit the 70 per cent double dose vaccination mark today.

Thirty-three million jabs have been administered across Australia with the first dose vaccination rate at 85.5 per cent. Victoria has first dose rate of 89.8 per cent. 

Victoria has 1841 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths overnight – a slight rise on yesterday’s figures.

There are now 22,598 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 78,928 tests were returned yesterday. More than 90,000 vaccines were administered.

There are 786 people in hospital, 146 in ICU and 97 on a ventilator. 89 per cent of hospital cases and 96 per cent of ICU cases are not fully vaccinated.  

Victoria’s border with NSW opened overnight with stranded Victorians able to return home.

NSW reported 283 new cases of COVID-19 and seven deaths overnight.

Victoria has 1749 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and eleven deaths overnight. The number of cases is down from 1903 yesterday. 

There are now 22,476 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 68,702 tests were returned yesterday.

There are 784 people in hospital, 149 in ICU – 88 per cent of hospital case and 96 per cent of ICU cases are not fully vaccinated.  

More than 90,000 vaccines were administered yesterday and seventy per cent of Victorians will be double vaccinated by Thursday when the state will start to open up.

NSW reported 273 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths overnight and the ACT 21 cases.

The number of COVID-19 patients in NSW has dropped below 600 for the first time since August 23.

Victoria has 1903 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and seven deaths overnight.

The end of Melbourne’s sixth 11-week lockdown is near with restrictions to ease on Friday when the 70 per cent fully vaccinated mark is reached. The travel limit will be scrapped, ten people will be allowed in households and 20 people will be able to dine indoors.

Schools will return to face-to-face learning in a staggered fashion with prep students returning today.

There are now 22,327 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 69,825 tests were returned yesterday.

More than 90,000 vaccines were administered yesterday and seventy per cent of Victorians will be double vaccinated by Thursday.

NSW reported 265 new cases of COVID-19 and fiver deaths overnight and the ACT 17 cases.

Victoria has reported a record 2179 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and six deaths overnight – 118 less cases than yesterday.

There are now 21,324 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 73,942 tests were returned yesterday. More than half of the cases are in households that have not had COVID before. Thirty new cases were reported in Mildura, where a lock down has been extended for another week. 

More than 98,000 vaccines were administered yesterday and seventy per cent of Victorians will be double vaccinated by next week.

There are 695 people in hospital, 157 in ICU and 101 on a ventilator. Only 7 per cent of people in hospital are fully vaccinated.

NSW reported 499 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths overnight and the state will hit the 80 per cent fully vaccinated mark over the weekend.

Victoria has reported a record 2297 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths overnight – up from yesterday’s 1571 cases.

There are now 20,505 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 86,000 tests were returned yesterday. Health authorities say the rise in cases is within the modelling parameters on which the road map out of lock down is based. 

More than 90,000 vaccines were administered yesterday and seventy per cent of Victorians will be double vaccinated by next week.

There are 706 people in hospital, 147 in ICU and 100 on a ventilator. Only 7 per cent of people in hospital are fully vaccinated.

Special arrangements are being made to ensure almost all VCE students will be able to sit their exams. But COVID positive students will get a derived score and will not sit exams.

The state government also announced $200 million worth of measures to combat mental health issues in schools.

NSW reported 406 new cases of COVID-19 and six deaths overnight and will hit the 80 per cent fully vaccinated mark this weekend. The ACT reported 47 cases.

Victoria has recorded 1571 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and 13 deaths overnight – up from yesterday’s 1466 cases.

There are now 19,861 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 79,200 tests were returned yesterday.

More than 90,000 vaccines were administered yesterday with 87.1 per cent of eligible Victorians now with a first dose and 60.9 per cent with a second dose.

There are 705 people in hospital, 146 in ICU and 92 on a ventilator. Only 7 per cent of people in hospital are fully vaccinated.

Dozens of sick babies at Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital have been put into isolation with their parents, after a father who later tested positive for COVID-19 visited the neo-natal intensive care ward. Mitchell Shire’s lockdown will end tonight.

Pop up vaccination centres in Melbourne’s north in local neighbourhood spots will operate from today. 

NSW reported 444 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths overnight. The ACT reported 51 cases.

There are now 19,627 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 68,509 tests were returned yesterday.

More than 90,000 vaccines were administered yesterday with 86.7 per cent of eligible Victorians now with a first dose and 59.8 per cent with a second dose.

There are 675 people in hospital, 144 in ICU and 100 on a ventilator. Only 7 per cent of people in hospital are fully vaccinated.

NSW reported 360 new cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths overnight – the lowest number of cases in NSW in three months.

Victoria has recorded 1612 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths overnight - down from yesterday’s 1890 cases.

There are now 19,012 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 73,138 tests were returned yesterday. Ninety of the cases are in Mildura.

More than 81,000 vaccines were administered yesterday with 85.5 per cent of eligible Victorians now with a first dose and 58 per cent with a second dose. 

MRNA vaccines are now available to people of any eligible age in Victoria. 

There are 677 people in hospital, 133 in ICU and 94 on a ventilator.

NSW reported 496 new cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths overnight as the state begins to open up with hospitality and retail businesses reopen.

COVID-19 Update – October 8, 2021

Victoria has recorded 1838 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and five deaths overnight – creating a national record for daily cases in a week.

There are now 16,823 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 77,554 tests were returned yesterday. Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said the state was approaching its peak of case numbers.

More than 35 per cent of the new cases were in Melbourne’s north. 

Greater Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will remain Commonwealth hotspots until October 14, meaning businesses in those areas will stay eligible for disaster payments.

Victorian children in Grade 3 and up will be required to wear a mask while at school, after a new ruling from the state’s Chief Health Officer.

NSW reported 646 new cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths.

There are 856 coronavirus patients in the state’s hospital and 170 people in intensive care with 75 on ventilators.

The state’s death toll since June 16 is 414, and 470 since the pandemic began.

Victoria has recorded 1638 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and two deaths overnight – taking the death toll for this outbreak to 78.

There are now 15,074 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 77,238 tests were returned yesterday.

More than 95,000 vaccine doses were administered yesterday with a 70 per cent vaccination rate expected at the end of this month.

There are 564 people in hospital, 115 in ICU and 74 on a ventilator. 93 per cent of people in hospital are not vaccinated.

Ten pop up vaccination centres for people with a disability have been announced.

NSW reported 587 new local COVID-19 cases and eight more deaths overnight. The NSW Government announced a quicker opening from the original roadmap up with larger gatherings allowed after 70 per cent of people are fully vaccinated.

Victoria has recorded 1429 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths overnight – a record number of deaths in 24 hours.

There are now 14,410 active cases of COVID-19 across the state after 71,451 tests were returned.

There are 525 people in hospital in Victoria, 94 in ICU and 53 on ventilators. Of people admitted to hospital yesterday, sixty-six per cent were unvaccinated and 28 per cent were partially vaccinated.

More than 80 per cent of Australians over 16 have now had a first dose of vaccine and 50 percent have had two doses. 

In Victoria, those figures are 83 per cent and 54 per cent respectively.

NSW reported 594 new local COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths overnight.

Queensland reported no new cases.

Victoria has recorded 1763 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and four deaths overnight – a national record number for daily cases.

There are now 14,368 active cases of coronavirus across the state after 62,189 tests were returned and 30,985 vaccines administered yesterday.

Three Ambulance Victoria paramedics have tested positive for COVID-19. Two were not working while they were infectious, but the third paramedic was asymptomatic and working.

Eighty-three per cent of Victorians have now received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and in 22 local government areas, the first-dose rate has now tipped over 90 per cent.

Fifty-four per cent of the state’s 79 LGAs are now above the 80 per cent first-dose mark.

Among them, Wyndham has 89 per cent of its residents vaccinated with a first dose, Casey and Cardinia have 83 per cent, and Hume had 80 per cent first-dosed as of Monday.

NSW reported 608 new local COVID-19 cases and seven deaths overnight.

Queensland reported two new cases, neither deemed to be a threat to the community.

Victoria has recorded 1377 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and four deaths overnight - up from 1220 new cases yesterday.

There are now 12,711 active cases of coronavirus across the state after 67,789 tests were returned and 30,985 vaccines administered yesterday.

Now, 52.5 per cent of eligible Victorians have had two doses of vaccine and 82.8 per cent have had one dose.

Thirty-three cases were found among year 11 and 12 students due to sit a GATT exam tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Melbourne has become the most locked down city in the world after 245 days of restrictions.

NSW reported 623 new local COVID-19 cases and six deaths overnight - all people from Sydney’s west.

More than  67 per cent of residents aged 16 and over are now fully vaccinated, as NSW moves closer to its 70 per cent target,

Queensland reported three new COVID-19 cases – one who was active in the community while infectious and the ACT 28 new cases and two deaths.

More than half of Victorians are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with 50.2 per cent of eligible people having had two doses and 80.9 per cent with one dose.

Victoria recorded 1143 new, locally acquired cases of COVID-19 overnight and three more deaths overnight.

From October 15 all authorised workers must have had at least one dose of vaccine to be able to continue working.

There are now 10,944 active cases in Victoria after 62,883 tests were returned and 34,935 vaccines administered. Warrnambool has gone into a seven day lockdown after a spike in cases.

NSW reported 864 new local COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths, equal to the most deadly day in the state since the pandemic began.

NSW’s death toll for current outbreak has hit 352 people. There are 1055 COVID-19 cases in NSW hospitals, with 210 people in ICU and 104 on ventilators.

The ACT has report3d 52 new local COVID cases and two deaths – the worst day for the ACT since the start of the pandemic.

Queensland has reported two news cases and is on the brink of a lockdown. New Zealand has reported 18 new COVID cases, ten of them active in the community.
