Novel Coronavirus and Australian visas

The Australian government has announced that all travellers who left or transited from mainland China from 1 February 2020 will be denied entry to Australia, with the exception of:

  • Australian citizens;
  • Permanent residents; and
  • Immediate family members of Australian citizens and permanent residents including spouses, minor dependents and legal guardians.

The government has advised international travellers (not falling within above exceptions) who have left or transited through mainland China from 1 Feb 2020 to not travel to Australia at this time. The Department of Home Affairs have warned that temporary visa holders that arrive from mainland China after the announcement of travel restrictions will have their visas cancelled.

We understand that these measures are temporary and will be reassessed mid-February. You can find the Department of Home Affairs announcement here.
