Local Area Information

Kinglake is a rural township northeast of Melbourne in the Great Dividing Range. Having a small population of around 1,340, the area possesses an intimate community spirit often sought after by both rural and city dwellers.

The town was one of the worst affected during the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009, which through the devastation strengthened the sense of community.

The Kinglake National Park is the area's most well known spot, and it boasts hiking tracks, picnic areas and camping grounds amidst some beautiful scenery, including dramatic views of the Melbourne's skyline, Port Phillip Bay and the Yarra Valley. Humevale Road between Kinglake and Whittlesea is a quiet and popular route for cyclists.

Along Main Road in Kinglake you will find a Foodworks supermarket. On Whittlesea-Kinglake Road, there is the Kinglake Pub, the Kinglake Diner, and Flying Tarts Bakery and cafe, beloved for its superb coffee and pastries. Residents enjoy fresh produce from the Kinglake Community Market, held on the second Sunday of every month.

Being about 45 kms north east of Melbourne, Kinglake is generally 3 °C colder than Metropolitan Melbourne and offers noticeable changes in season with the summers being very pleasant and heavy frosts and occasional snowfalls during winter.
