A change to Victorian law regarding driving licence rules will impact Temporary Visa Holders, including international students

The new Victoria road laws to Driving Licence Rules for temporary visa holders including international students commenced on Tuesday 29th October 2019.

As of 29th October 2019, all temporary visa holders including international students driving on an overseas or interstate licence will have six months to convert to a local licence. The licence requirements and assessments remained the same.

  • Temporary visa holders who arrive in Victoria after the 29th October 2019 will have six months to apply for a Victorian driving licence.
  • Temporary visa holders who are already living in Victoria and haven't yet converted their licence will have six months from 29th October 2019 to do so.
