Exceptions of work hours for international students has been updated

Update: 17 June 2020

The temporary relaxation of the 40-hour work limited for international students working in supermarkets has ended. From 1st May 2020, international students must comply with the work limitation of their visas. The Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Border Force will exercise normal discretion about student visa holders employed in supermarkets who exceed the work limits.

International students working in some aged care facilities can continue working more than 40 hours per fortnight. This measure is to ensure there are enough staff looking after vulnerable elderly people during COVID-19. However, it only applies to existing workers in their existing role. The Government will review this temporary measure regularly.
